Metal Halide Lamps at university - any suggestions?

Well, the Metal Halides on Ebay have now sold (and not to me... ) and the Queens Building of DMU still has those nasty metal halide light fittings installed.

When will they actually be replaced?!

I'm going into the university tomorrow so I should be able to get some images of the foyer then.

Thought this was relevant to this thread, so here goes:

Found out a couple of weeks ago that two of the lecture theatres in the Queens Building use mercury vapor bulbs as their main method of lighting!

That explains why, on past experiences, the lights wouldn't turn on immediately after turning them off - due to the restrike period that all HID lights have. This includes the MH and MV bulbs.

Hopefully these will replaced with LEDs - 10W LEDs would be just as bright as the 80W mercury bulbs currently in use.

Update (late 2017):

The metal halide situation is no better.

Currently a total of 3x lights now working properly (that's 3 out of 32). Two lamps that were previously OK are now showing signs of capacitor plague.

The whole lot need to come down and get replaced with LED!
