Testing a LiFe rechargeable battery :D

Postby spotify95 » July 30th, 2017, 11:38 am

Think you might like this somehow... :D

I recently got myself a new battery charger and needed to use it to test a couple of unknown batteries - so whilst I was at it, I also tested some other batteries that I had for a while - including a LiFe battery from an older garden light set.

The results were interesting... :p

Interesting........

Would you consider doing any tests on any specialised batteries such as laptop batteries?

Yes, did you note the pitiful capacity that the LiFe (Lithium Iron Phosphate/LiFePO4) battery came out at?

If you, or anyone else, wanted me to do some tests on laptop batteries, then yes I could do that - so long as I knew the configuration of the cells inside the laptop battery, and would be able to hook my probes up to the various different points in the battery (as there will almost certainly be multiple cells in series, with some laptops having multiple cells in parallel as well).

I can do Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, Li-Po (1-6S), Li-Ion (1-6S), Li-Fe (Li-FePO4, 1-6S) and Pb (lead acid, 2-20V).

Yes I did. :)

I've got various batteries I could give you. :yep:

I've just taken apart an old HP netbook battery and realized it has 3x 18650 cells, model Samsung INR 18650-26C. They are rated at 2600mah capacity and have a max discharge rate of 5200mA.
I wonder if any of those 3 cells will have a good capacity? I know that they couldn't be recognized in the laptop battery itself,as the voltage of the cells had dropped too low...
